Where to stay

Aloha! Here’s some general info that should help while looking for a place to stay on Maui :)
We live in South Maui on the Kihei/Wailea border. The wedding is at Kukahiko Estate in Makena, which is about a 5 minute drive from Wailea. Wailea is home to a handful of resorts like Andaz, The Grand, The Fairmont and the Four Seasons. This area tends to be more expensive and Fancy but you do get what you pay for at these places… very nice accommodations, beautiful beaches and great service.
Just to the north of Wailea is Kihei, which is a little more crowded but has lots of options for rental condos. It’s not as fancy as Wailea but still a great option. Great beaches up there too and only about 15 minutes from the wedding location.
The other area with a large concentration of resorts is Ka’anapali. Ka’anapali is great but you will have an hour drive down to south Maui from there. It’s a beautiful drive along the coast but it’s probably best to look in south Maui if you can.
When looking for condos or houses to rent, your best bet will be sites like AirBNB, VRBO, Home Away and FlipKey. This is a great option, especially if you want to share the house with friends/family and get more bang for your buck.
There is also the Hotel Wailea, located just above the Wailea resorts. It’s a really cute hotel and we have a discount there if you use code “Blissmaui“. Hotel Wailea is not located on the water but it’s only a 1 minute drive to the beach and I think they will also drive you to and from nearby beaches in their fancy Escalades.
That’s sort of the basics. PLEASE feel free to contact us if you have any questions!

Some important things to note:
Being that our wedding date is Wednesday, 9/24/14, I would try to make sure that you get here a couple of days before the wedding. We are trying to arrange a group activity on 9/22/14, and would love if most could join in.
There are a couple other very small airports on Maui, but the airport you want to fly into is Kahului, or airport code OGG.
We will try to greet as many people as we possibly can at the airport, but since there are a lot of factors at play, please note that Maui’s Public transit system is pretty much non-existent. Also, cabs aren’t necessarily readily available, and are super duper pricy if you do get one…so your best bet is to get a rental car straight away. The cheapest (and pretty much most awesome car rental company, due to the fact that they have a number of friendly cats hanging in and around the rental office) is Kihei Rent-a-Car. They are located in Kihei (pronounced Key-hay), not at the airport, but they do offer pickup service. They are AWESOME and during the summer season, have cars at $130 a week! Keep in mind, Kihei Rent-a-Car mostly rents “Maui cruisers” or beat-up, ugly cars. You won’t travel in luxury if you rent from there. The other car companies gouge you and try to up-sell you at every angle.
*Please note that Hopper refers to the city you are flying into as Paia (Pie-ee-uh). Paia is a little town near the airport, but not where you are flying into.
Here are some of the Hopper statistics first, for Cleveland (CLE) to Kahului (pronounced Kah-who-louie), Maui (OGG):

Here are the stats for Chicago (ORD) to Kahului, Maui (OGG):

These reports were generated from www.hopper.com, using their third option on the right side of the screen, called When to Fly and Buy. When you do it from home, you can actually click on the “Find Flights” part of the report and allow you to put in specific dates for real flight options. Nice. Keep us up to date with what deals you find. We will gladly share them here to spread the word!
I know, probably not. Who cares? When’s the last time I asked you how work was going? Just in case, here’s a nice little write up on a blog called Hawaii Wedding Love about us :)

Hey, why not?
Enter for a trip to Maui! Unfortunately, you wouldn’t be able to use the trip in time for the wedding, but you know you will want to come back!

We are super, duper, crazy excited that we will get to spend plenty of quality time with friends and family leading up to, during, and after our wedding. We feel incredibly lucky that we have so many people in our lives that mean the world to us. The fact that we are able to share the experience of being on Maui with all of you during this very special time in our lives is really more than we could have ever asked for. It’s a dream come true.
You should be receiving your invitation soon, however, you may notice that it does not include many specific details (for example, the specific time that the wedding will take place) because, well, we haven’t figured it all out just yet. Additionally, we feel that a destination wedding involves more planning and information that just couldn’t be contained on a few slips of pretty paper.
Keep in mind that we know that there will be many people that are unable to attend. It is a long flight, involves ample time off of work and can be pretty costly. We are aware that any number of factors can make a trip like this impossible. We just hope that everyone understands why we just couldn’t bear the thought of having our wedding anywhere but this amazing place we now call home. Keep in mind that we hope to have small, casual celebrations in the upcoming year in both Chicago and in Cleveland. We can surely have a drink to celebrate, then!
If you are able to pull all of those strings and come celebrate with us in paradise, we really hope that this website is a great resource for you. We will be posting articles on when and how to book your flight, where and how to book a room or house, what deals we know about, fun stuff to do, and just any information about Maui that we may find interesting. Please, stay tuned! We love all of you, we can’t wait to share the island we love so much with each and every one of you who are able to join us. We really do want this to be an experience of a lifetime!
Aloha and Mahalo!
